- Belgium's strongest engineers are usually in consultancies, and moving them to an end client is a different conversation entirely.
- Language requirements narrow a shortlist faster than any framework does. Dutch-speaking senior backend is a different market to English-only.
- Job adverts have stopped working for anyone above mid-level. Everything senior is direct approach.
- Counter-offers are now standard. We plan for them before the offer goes out, not after.
This is where the change is sharpest: specification and tests written first, implementation delegated and reviewed, whole manual steps deleted. The people worth hiring are not the ones with the longest tool list — they are the ones who can tell you what now catches their mistakes.
